Music and Drama
All pupils are given the opportunity to perform at regular events and concerts. Recent school productions include the Christmas Pantomime and ‘A Night at the Musicals’ which saw the Junior and Senior School perform scenes from various musicals including Mamma Mia, Once, Bugsy Malone, Matilda and Frozen.
The Junior school have regular Friday morning music assemblies where they are invited to perform in front of their peers and parents.
There are many extra-curricular groups on offer including vocal groups/choir, ceilidh band, rock band and music ensemble. All pupils are encouraged to attend these activities, regardless of age, ability or experience, and in opening up music to all our pupils we strive to develop not only their musicianship but to nurture their sense of well-being.
An active Drama department has delighted Lathallan pupils and parents for many years, with fantastic productions of many ‘Shakespeare with a twist’ plays and modern musicals.
Head Consul (2013-14), Neil Foster was especially involved with Drama at Lathallan School and has now progressed to the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Neil credits the small drama class sizes and opportunities at Lathallan as having helped him understand his craft better.
Pupils whose interests lie in this area also have the opportunity to take additional lessons with a visiting specialist teacher leading to the examinations offered by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. The past academic year we saw 39 candidates obtain their LAMDA certificates.
We are also proud of Old Lathallian, Sophie Kennedy (1995 to 2000) who won a Scottish BAFTA for her performance in the Oscar winning film ‘Philomena’ starring Judi Dench.
