Physical Education

Within Physical Education we create an inclusive environment that’s supports every pupil’s participation in a wide range of activities including; Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Fitness Training, Football, Gymnastics, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Social Dance and Yoga. The progressive and challenging programmes of work ensure our pupils have a positive attitude towards health and wellbeing and want to participate in physical activity outwith School, and into adult life.

In addition to our extensive P.E. programme the School prides itself on giving pupils the opportunity to participate and represent the School in Rugby, Tennis, Netball, Hockey, Cricket, Cross Country and Swimming. Fixtures support and enrich the curriculum there is an expectation of pupils to play when selected.

Physical Education and SQA Leadership Award

Level: National 5 Physical Education and SQA Leadership Award

National 5 Physical Education consists of two units:

  • Factors Impacting on Performance (FIP)
  • Performance Skill

The purpose of the course is to develop and demonstrate movement and performance skills in physical activities. By engaging in physical activities, learners can demonstrate initiative, decision- making and problem-solving.
The Course also encourages learners to develop a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle.

At National 5 the performance unit will compromise of two single performances in different activities and is worth 50% of the final grade. The written portfolio will include the skills of planning and evaluation, is assessed by the SQA and worth 50% of the final grade. There is no additional exam.

The SQA Leadership Award consists of two units:

  • Leadership: An Introduction
  • Leadership: In Practice

The purpose of the course is to develop knowledge of leadership skills, styles and qualities. It is designed for learners who take, or plan to take, a leading role for an activity.

The SQA Leadership Award is assessed internally but the evidence is subject to external verification by the SQA. Pupils will be awarded either a Pass or Fail.

 

Physical Education

Level: Higher

Higher Physical Education consists of two units:

  • Factors Impacting on Performance (FIP)
  • Performance Skill

The Higher Physical Education course allows pupils to further develop an in-depth understanding of the physical, social, mental and emotional factors that impact on performance. This knowledge will then enable analysis and development of individual performance.

At Higher the performance unit is assessed internally and worth 60% of the final grade. There is also an exam worth 40% of the final grade.
