Lathallan pupils celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a 70km sponsored walk of the Deeside Way, from Aberdeen to Ballater, raising in excess of their £2000 target. The money raised will be used for green projects around the school, including tree planting.
More than 60 senior school pupils from S1 to S3, and their teachers, took on the mixed terrain challenge across three days with Headmaster, Richard Toley, saying:
“At Lathallan, we believe that it is important to provide opportunities for our pupils to engage in fun challenges away from their computer screens and in the great outdoors, while at the same time maintaining the spirit of community that is integral to the school experience.
“What better way to do that than in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee, with an event that has enabled us to raise money in support of our school’s sustainability efforts. I am very proud of all our pupils and staff for their efforts.”
Junior school pupils also got involved, participating in a mini Highland Games and a series of fun competitions – from designing a Lego castle fit for a queen, to creating their own garden party hats, jubilee crowns and floral table decorations.
Lathallan has a strong focus on the environment and sustainability, with pupils undertaking a wide range of projects, from forming their own Eco Club, to tree planting, organising an eco-fashion show, carrying out regular beach cleans, and growing fruit and vegetables in the school polytunnel.
