Our Ethos
Our main aim is for each young person passing through our school doors to discover and develop themselves, and leave as accomplished young adults prepared for life after school
Our focus is on the individual pupil. Our class size average is 12; allowing our staff to give each child the very best care. I am proud that at Lathallan School every member of staff knows each child by name and nature, which means we can fully understand and appreciate each child’s hopes and aspirations for the future, and equip them with the tools to be successful.
Lathallan does not have entrance exams, we assess each child on his or her own merit. We strongly believe that every child deserves to enjoy the success of their individual abilities in whatever field they lie – in the classroom, on the sports field, in the arts, in personal achievement.
Our Values
We blend our traditional values: confidence, opportunity, respect, endeavour and modesty with a modern approach of helping each pupil to embrace challenge and become the best they possibly can be, as both individuals and members of society.
“We teach your children how to realise their full academic potential but we also teach them the building blocks for taking care of their mental health and wellbeing too”.
Learning Outside the Classroom
In 2023 we were awarded the Gold Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) quality mark, making us the only all-through school in Scotland to achieve this.
It recognises our school’s commitment to providing meaningful LOtC experiences across the whole curriculum both indoors and out, on and off-site, including visitors bringing experiences into the school; activities in the school grounds; indoor and outdoor visits in the locality e.g. shops, sacred places, parks/woodlands; off-site visits to heritage/cultural sites, museums, theatres and residentials.
This award comes just a couple of years after Lathallan was awarded UK Small Independent School of the Year 2021.
The LOtC Mark is the only national accreditation for schools with this ethos and is awarded by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, the UK-wide charity that champions all learning that happens beyond the four walls of a classroom.
Our Centenary Strategy
As we move towards our Centenary in 2030, we will continue to focus on what sets us apart and delivers an extraordinary education for all of our pupils. Our key pillars of activity are focused on Wellbeing, Community, our Environment and Wisdom.
