Arts

Lathallan offers a true-all round education and exposure to the arts is central to this. Whether it’s music, drama, visual art or design, Lathallan is alive with creativity and pupils have ample opportunities to develop their skills.

Drama & Performance

Many pupils take LAMDA drama classes that lead to exams set by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. From those that seize this opportunity, we see a considerable difference in all aspects of their communication and performance skills!

Over the 2020/21 academic year, we have seen two cohorts of Lathallan pupils go through their LAMDA exams with fantastic results – 77% Distinctions in June 2021.

Music

Individual music lessons are available in school and are provided by expert teachers. Around half of our pupils take regular music lessons in piano, violin, guitar, clarinet, vocals, double bass, cello, pipes and drums.

School Shows

Our annual school productions see every pupil from J1 to S6 taking to the stage for concerts, theatre, recitals and musical competitions.

Pipe Band

2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of the Lathallan School Pipe band. Quite a feat given we’re a relatively small school.

Art & Design

Pupils will investigate themes such as portraiture, figure composition, still life, the nature or built environment and then produce two or three-dimensional outcomes using a range of disciplines such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture or mixed media work.

Pupils will identify and research into a design need. They will develop their ideas in areas such as graphic design, product design, interior design, environmental/architectural design, fashion and textiles, which they then evaluate.

Photography

Each year we host a Photography Exhibition where our budding amateur photographers can showcase their work to the public.

“This is the sixth year we have hosted the Lathallan School Photography Exhibition. It is an ideal venue for the students to display their creative and photographic skills to the public and a wonderful opportunity to be able to share with our local community too. We know that the pupils are central to the planning, construction and presentation of the show in a true to life experience and it is open for the enjoyment of all.” Donald Marr, Chair of Johnshaven Heritage Society
