This past week, Lathallan School was alive with the sights and sounds of Scottish tradition as we celebrated Robert Burns in style across our Junior and Senior Schools. From heartfelt poetry recitals to the iconic haggis, neeps, and tatties, the week was filled with unforgettable moments of cultural pride and community spirit.

Junior Burns Supper: J1-4 and J5-7 (Wednesday)
Wednesday evening saw not one but two incredible celebrations as our Junior School pupils took to the stage to honour the Bard of Ayrshire.
For our younger pupils (J1-4), the evening was a magical introduction to Scotland’s rich traditions. The children recited poems, enjoyed a delicious traditional meal, and danced the night away with lively Scottish Country Dancing. It was an evening filled with joy, laughter, and an infectious enthusiasm for celebrating Rabbie Burns.
Our J5-7 pupils took the reins for the second Junior Burns Supper of the evening. They showcased their growing confidence and creativity through inspiring performances, humorous speeches, and an outstanding Address to the Haggis. The highlight of the evening was the pupils leading their peers and teachers in some energetic Scottish Country Dancing, leaving everyone with smiles on their faces and tired feet!

Senior Burns Supper (Thursday)
The following night, it was the Senior School’s turn to take the spotlight. The Senior Burns Supper was a resounding success, blending tradition with the humour and creativity of our older pupils.
The event began with the stirring sound of the pipes as the haggis was ceremoniously brought in, followed by a spirited Address to the Haggis and the Selkirk Grace. Guests enjoyed a hearty meal of lentil soup, haggis, neeps, and tatties, rounded off with sticky toffee pudding.
The evening continued with a series of heartfelt and humorous speeches, including a moving Immortal Memory, a witty Toast to the Lassies, and a charming Response to the Laddies. The highlight, however, was the musical performances, which showcased the incredible talent within our Senior School.
To close the night, everyone took to the floor for some spirited Scottish Country Dancing. Laughter, music, and joy filled the room as the Seniors celebrated the life and legacy of Robert Burns in true Lathallan style.

Celebrating Our Scottish Heritage
From the youngest pupils in J1 to our Seniors, the Burns Suppers were a powerful reminder of the importance of celebrating Scotland’s rich cultural heritage. These events bring our school community together in a shared appreciation for tradition, creativity, and, of course, a little Scottish spirit.
A huge thank you to all the pupils, staff, and families who helped make these evenings so memorable. Your hard work and enthusiasm shone through in every performance, speech, and dance.
