A Night of Talent: From Classroom to Curtain Call – The Lathallan School Show

Lathallan’s commitment to a holistic education is evident in our thriving arts program. Whether you’re a budding musician, aspiring actor, or simply enjoy expressing yourself creatively, our school offers a rich environment for artistic growth.

Every year, pupils from Nursery to S6 deliver a range of fantastic performances from musical assemblies to the bright lights and action of school shows.

We’re thrilled to have Mrs Strachan join us as our new Head of Music from August 2024. With her impressive background in music education, including directing and choreographing productions, we’re excited to see where she’ll take our music program. She is an SQA  Advanced Higher Team Leader, an SQA visiting Assessor for Higher and National 5 and chairs the Angus Subject Network Group for Music.

“We are excited at the prospect of our junior and senior school pupils coming together for a musical production in February 2025. We are aiming to expand our extra curricular programs as well as continuing to provide a music education that motivates, inspires creativity and provides our students with the confidence to flourish.” – Mrs Strachan, Head of Music

A hallmark of this production is the incredible collaboration between departments and pupils, transforming it into a fully-fledged, student-driven performance. Beyond taking to the stage, our pupils are also working behind the scenes to craft the visual world of Oliver Jnr & A Night at the Musicals. Under the guidance of our Art Department, students are designing and building the props and set pieces that will bring the story to life.

From painting intricate backdrops to constructing iconic props like Oliver’s bowl or the bustling market stalls of Victorian London, this hands-on process gives pupils a unique opportunity to combine creativity with problem-solving. The skills they develop – designing, building, and collaborating – are as valuable as the applause they’ll receive on performance night.

This involvement ensures that the production is more than just a show; it’s a school-wide endeavour where creativity and teamwork shine on and off the stage. Together, we’re not just putting on a performance – we’re creating memories and fostering a lifelong love of the arts.
