At Lathallan School, we are incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievements, both inside and outside the classroom. This month, our very own S6 student, Dean Fearn, made a splash on the international stage by competing in the 58th Geneva International Challenge Swim Meet as part of the Scottish Junior Swimming Team.

A Stellar Performance on the International Stage
Dean delivered a series of outstanding performances in Geneva, competing against some of the world’s best junior swimmers. As part of the Scottish team, Dean used this early-season long-course competition to sharpen his skills and prepare for key events later in the year.
Among his notable achievements:
- Silver Medal in the 50m Butterfly: Dean touched home in an impressive 23.89 seconds, narrowly missing the Scottish record of 23.82.
- A Finalist in the 100m Backstroke: Dean achieved a personal best of 55.77, earning a fourth-place finish in a highly competitive field.
- Sixth Place in the 200m Backstroke: Dean recorded a strong time of 2:05.12, showcasing his versatility across multiple events.
Scottish Junior Team: Camaraderie and Inspiration
Dean was part of a talented Scottish Junior Swimming Team that performed strongly throughout the weekend, placing eighth overall in the team points total at this highly competitive European meet.
The group’s camaraderie and shared passion for swimming created an inspiring atmosphere, with each member pushing one another to achieve their best. For Dean, being part of such a skilled and motivated team was both rewarding and energising, helping him to deliver standout performances and further develop as an athlete.
The Geneva International Meet was not only a platform for competition but also an opportunity for the team to grow together, proving the power of teamwork in achieving individual and collective success.
Inspiration Through Sport
Dean’s achievements are not only a personal milestone but also a source of inspiration for the entire Lathallan community. His hard work, dedication, and passion for swimming exemplify the values we strive to instil in all our pupils.

Looking Ahead
As Dean continues to train and compete, we are excited to follow his journey and celebrate his future successes. His achievements remind us of the incredible opportunities that come with hard work and perseverance.
Congratulations to Dean and the entire Scottish Junior Swimming Team for their impressive performances at the Geneva International Meet – you’ve made Scotland and Lathallan proud!
