Meet our Lathallan School Matrons

We have provided an overview of their remit below, while also sharing a bit more about the impressive breadth of experience our Matrons bring to the school community.

A school Matron? What exactly is that? It is a question we often hear from those new to the Lathallan family. Far from just handing out plasters, our Matrons’ Department is the heartbeat of health, well-being, and safeguarding at the school. Working hand-in-hand with our Boarding Houseparents, teaching team and Pastoral Staff, Lucy, Felicity, and Ally provide a modern, comprehensive care network that ensures every pupil feels supported, healthy, and safe throughout their school journey.

Our Matrons’ remit

Lucy, Felicity and Ally focus on medical care, health promotion, and pastoral support.

Area Key Responsibilities
Emergency & First Aid Administering first aid to pupils, staff, and visitors. Maintaining all first aid kits and ensuring legal compliance.
Medicine & Medical Admin Administering prescribed medicines according to school policy. Maintaining confidential health records and updating medical policies.
Health Management Coordinating the medical room and caring for sick/injured pupils who become unwell or injured during the school day. Developing and monitoring in-school Care Plans for complex conditions (e.g., allergies, asthma).
External Liaison Coordinating with NHS Grampian for routine immunisations. Managing and accompanying boarding pupils to necessary external medical appointments.
Health Promotion Supporting the school’s health program (e.g., hygiene, nutrition) and monitoring student well-being.

Limits of their role

Our Matrons are not a substitute for NHS primary or secondary care. Their resources and clinical scope are limited.

They provide assessment and first aid, but cannot perform full medical diagnoses, prescribe prescription-only medication (beyond emergency care), or offer complex treatment requiring a specialist.

Get to Know Our New Matrons

Ally and Felicity joined our long-serving school matron, Lucy, in the latter part of 2025.

Felicity (Monday – Wednesday, 8.30am – 5pm)

Felicity has worked as a paediatric nurse for the past 10 years after training at the University of Surrey and taking an early interest in the holistic health of children and young people. Since then, she has worked in Chelsea and Westminster Children’s Hospital and The Whittington Paediatric Emergency Department in London, as well as in York Paediatric Emergency Department and more recently in NHS Tayside as a Paediatric Practice Educator and Staff Wellbeing Champion. She also volunteered for 18 months as a nurse in Central America and tries to keep up her now rusty Spanish. Felicity loves being outdoors with her husband and little son, hiking, camping, paddle boarding, climbing, and crafting/baking/making things by hand. Since moving up to Scotland 4 years ago, she completed her Summer Mountain Leader training with her husband and developed a new love for wild swimming, visiting bothies and saunas! So far, Felicity has felt very enamoured by Lathallan and getting to know all the pupils and staff since joining in October and loves its wonderful school environment since trading it for a clinical hospital setting.

Ally (Thursday – Friday, 8.30am am – 5pm)

When not working at Lathallan, Ally is the Obesity Nurse Specialist in NHS Grampian. With 18 years of nursing experience across a variety of settings, Ally is passionate about health promotion, nutrition and has a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. She has a keen sense of adventure and loves to be outdoors or on her travels with her husband and 3-year-old daughter Sophie, who is a Squirrel here at Lathallan Nursery. When Ally is at home you will usually find her in the kitchen (with sous-chef and chief taster Sophie) or in the garden trying her best to get fruit and vegetables to thrive on the Angus coast! Ally started running two years ago and is grateful to be part of the local running community—she is training for her first marathon so give her a wave if you see her getting the miles in around the Castle! Ally is enjoying getting to know everyone and is already feeling part of the school community.

Lucy (Daily, 3pm onwards – Boarding)

Lucy continues her vital role within the school, moving into the afternoons and evenings to focus on the care of our boarding community.
