At Lathallan School, we pride ourselves on creating learning opportunities that inspire and engage our pupils. Recently, our J6 and J7 pupils had the privilege of welcoming Julian Ellins, an engineer from Metron Group, for a fascinating session about the power of electricity.

Bringing Engineering to Life
Julian’s visit was nothing short of electrifying! With his wealth of experience in the engineering sector, he gave our pupils a unique insight into working with electricity, sharing real-world examples of how it shapes the world around us. His presentation was not only informative but also highly engaging, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among the children.
The highlight of the session was an exciting hands-on activity where the pupils were challenged to build their own model electricity pylons. Working in small groups, they used creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to construct their structures. This practical exercise gave them a tangible connection to the concepts they were learning and provided a brilliant opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into action.

A Real-World Perspective
Julian’s presentation went beyond just the technical aspects of electricity. He shared insights into his career as an engineer at Metron Group, illustrating how engineering plays a crucial role in solving everyday challenges. By hearing about his experiences, the pupils gained a real-world perspective on how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) can lead to exciting and impactful careers.

The Pupils’ Experience
Our J6 and J7 pupils were captivated by Julian’s visit. Their enthusiasm was evident in their questions, the discussions that followed, and the innovative designs of their model pylons. Experiences like these help bring learning to life, connecting classroom topics to real-world applications and inspiring the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Thank You, Julian!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Julian Ellins and Metron Group for taking the time to visit Lathallan and share their expertise with our pupils. Opportunities like these are invaluable in broadening our students’ horizons and nurturing their passion for learning.
We look forward to welcoming more guest speakers and experts to Lathallan in the future as we continue to inspire our pupils to dream big and think creatively.
