Trips

Journeys to the wild side with mountain hikes and plenty of adventure.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Expeditions require teamwork, resilience and well-practised navigation skills. Every year since 2015, Lathallan has had the highest school DofE uptake and completion rate in Scotland. Congratulations to all who completed their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards this year – conquering heights and challenges (mainly the unpredictable weather) along the way!

Year-on-year, our pupils have also continued to complete the National Navigation Awards Scheme.

Lathallan offers a range of school trips but these have been paused during the pandemic. In recent years, pupils have had the chance to visit Iceland, Austria, Barcelona and South Africa.

For over a decade, we’ve been supporting Vuyani Safe Haven in the Eastern Cape province and our S5 and S6 pupils have the opportunity to visit and help with various projects on the ground in South Africa.

“Across the school pupils have actively engaged in a full range of activities adapting to restrictions with ease and exploring the local area more. A stand out memory of mine is the improvement in ability of J5/6 mountain bikers over just 3 days, all tackling the blue trail at Tarland trails on the last day – some pupils had a crash course in how to ride a bike with Mr Carter just days beforehand!” – Mr Malone, Head of Outdoor Education
