A Pipers Cafe ‘on tour’ event at Taylor’s Auction Rooms in Montrose has raised an impressive £817.67 for Vuyani Safe Haven in South Africa.
Senior School pupils from Pipers and the forthcoming summer volunteering trip to South Africa served up delicious home baking, refreshments and a soup/sandwich lunch to visitors to the auctioneers on Friday 3rd May.
The pupils were praised for their high quality serving standards at the event with several positive remarks over the quality of baking provided by the volunteers.
The incredible total will make a significant contribution towards helping the children at Vuyani, with the fundraising carrying a relevant spending value of £5,000-£6,000 in the local South African economy.
Lathallan pupils have made a substantial donation to the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal.
The school handed over 44 boxes filled of gifts and treats to help play Lathallan’s part in ‘bringing happiness to someone in need this Christmas.’
The Blythswood scheme has been running for 25 years with children in Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine all benefiting from donations in 2017.
Gabriella, our Junior School Head of Charity, helped pass on Lathallan’s donation along with fellow J7 Adam and along with fellow Junior School pupils Harriet, Poppy and Ewan.
Lathallan School raised a stunning £1,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support after hosting an all-day cake and coffee event at Pipers’ Cafe.
Pupils from the Nursery, Junior and Senior Schools performed a wide-range of live music and busking performances to entertain a packed Pipers throughout the day.
And local MSP Mairi Gougeon, Minister for Rural Affairs and the Natural Environment, also paid a visit to Pipers as part of her tour of Lathallan School – taking in a moving violin set by S6 pupil Sorcha Gall and a stunning solo singing performance by her peer Fenn Lawrence.
Mrs Gougeon also toured the Nursery, Junior School and Senior School before being interviewed by S5 pupil James Fraser. James, who is very knowledgeable about politics, is currently working part-time at Mairi Gougeon’s constituency office in Brechin.
